Training on Fuel Injection System (EFI) Department of Automotive Engineering, FT UNP at SMK N 1 KEC LUAK, KAB 50 KOTA

SMK N 1 Kec Luak is one of the vocational schools located in District 50 Cities. Located in Andaleh district, about 15 km from downtown Payakumbuh. SMK N 1 Kec Luak has only been established since 2008 (11 years) but its development can be said to be quite good. From the beginning which only consisted of 3 departments, now SMK N 1 Kec. Luak already has 7 departments consisting of culinary, fashion, multimedia, light vehicle engineering, motorcycle engineering and business and marketing majors. Since its establishment until now, SMK N 1 Kec. Badger shows a very rapid development graph, this is due to the location of SMK N 1 Ke. Badgers are in a strategic position and are around residents who have a dense population. This condition makes SMK N 1 Kec Luak become one of the favorite vocational education destinations.

Status as one of the favorite vocational schools around the district. Luak, SMK N 1 Kec. Badger is also supported by a land area that is more than sufficient, around 152,302 m2. On this large area of land stands school buildings and facilities that can support PBM. Starting from workshops for each department, sports fields, prayer rooms, canteens and health facilities are also available in this school.

Even so, the high interest of students to go to school at SMK N 1 Kec. Badger leaves several problems related to the availability of practical equipment. Often the number of equipment for practice is not proportional to the number of students, so that it has an impact on the quality of PBM. This condition is actually always strived for by the Principal and his staff, starting from submitting assistance to central, provincial and local governments. However, up to this moment, the school’s efforts have not yet reached an ideal condition.

Apart from the problem of the number of equipment, the quality of the equipment used in the practicum can be said to be far from standard. In practicum and even competency examinations, students of SMK N 1 Kec. Badger practices with seemingly makeshift equipment. After being confirmed to the Head of the Light Vehicle Engineering Workshop, M. Faizul S.Pd, he said that this condition had been reported since 2 years ago, but there had been no action. Even in previous years, students of SMK N 1 Kec. Badgers have to take Competency Examinations by borrowing equipment from other schools. Such conditions will certainly have an impact on the low quality of graduates and the reputation of the school in the future. The following is documentation regarding the availability of practicum equipment

Figure 1. Practicum Situation at SMK N 1 Luak District

Padang State University through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2m) held a Community Partnership (PKM) program at SMK N 1 Luak District with the theme of fuel injection system training. This theme is considered quite appropriate to be implemented at SMK N 1 Kec Luak considering the limited equipment and human resources related to the fuel injection system. This community service activity chaired by Mr. Wagino M.Pd.T contains 3 main materials: trouble shooting system EFI, injector maintenance (Injector cleaner) and emission test. The three materials are part of the light vehicle engineering department competency test material. It is hoped that this training can improve students’ understanding of the fuel injection system and be able to have an impact on increasing student competence.

PKM activities were opened directly by the Head of SMK N 1 Kec. Luak Drs. Idil Wahdi. During activities he is always present to monitor the progress of the activity. This shows the high enthusiasm of the school with this PKM activity, material in the opening speech of the activity, he said he was ready to collaborate again in PKM activities on a larger scale, while explaining several problems in other departments at SMK N 1 Kec Luak. The following is a documentation of the opening activities of the PKM activities

Figure 3. Delivery of training materials and stationery by the PKM Team leader to one of the training participants

The PKM activity participants consisted of 20 TKR class 11 students. These students were selected based on the level of knowledge they already had because the material about the EFI system was a continuation of the basic material for the combustion motor that they had received in grade 10.

PKM activities begin with a pre-test to find out the extent to which students understand the material to be given. From the pre-test results, it was seen that students’ low understanding of the EFI system was still low.

High enthusiasm and enthusiasm is reflected in the students who take part in PKM activities. This condition was indicated because of their high curiosity but constrained by the minimal availability of equipment at the TKR workshop. In the practicum process, students were given material about the introduction of the EFI system, the EFI trouble shooting system and immediately practiced using the scan tool and engine stand that had been prepared by the PKM team.

After the material on the basics of the EFI fuel system, the participants took turns following the injector cleaner and emission test (four gas analyzer) material.

After each student gets the PKM material. At the end of the activity students are given an evaluation (post test). The results of the evaluation conducted by the PKM team showed a significant increase in the participants’ understanding of the EFI system material. This condition is the result of the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the participants during the activity.

For the continuity of this learning, we, the PKM team, majoring in Automotive Engineering, UNP, provided training materials complete with the EFI job sheet system. Hopefully after the PKM activity, the school can independently develop EFI material in PBM so that the aim of increasing the overall competence of students of SMK N 1 Kec luak can be achieved.
